About Us

Founder and Lead Educator,

Miriam Raziel Kanani, MA

Miriam Kanani, M.A. is a singer, educator, storyteller, and Jewish ritual leader with a deep passion for Jewish education, ceremonial leadership, and working with students from preschool through middle school.

 

She has over 20 years of experience in Jewish educational settings including preschools, elementary schools, synagogues, summer camps, and informal learning programs.

​

Over the past six years, Miriam has prepared more than 100 students for their Bar, Bat, and B’ Mitzvah ceremonies. She served as a lead teacher in the Tawonga B’nai Mitzvah Program for three years, and continues to officiate independent B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies for families across the Bay Area. She is proud to work with interracial families, LGBTQ families, and those from across the Jewish spectrum.

Her teaching style is creative, joyful, and personalized—guiding students through prayers, Torah trope, Haftarah, and speech writing with confidence and fun.

Miriam holds a Master's degree from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, a California Multi-Subject Teaching Credential, and a Certificate in Jewish Day School Education from Hebrew Union College in Los Angeles.

 

She spent four years immersed in intensive Hebrew study in Israel and studied trope through mentorship in the Leyning with Heart program based in Philadelphia. Most recently, she spent six years teaching Hebrew and Jewish Studies, at Congregation Beth El in Berkeley as well as worked as a full time teacher at Tehiyah Day School, Contra Costa Jewish Day School, Gan Shalom Preschool, and Congregation Netivot Shalom Hebrew School.  Miriam looks forward to getting to know you and your family and helping you find meaning and connection through Jewish learning and ritual.
